Connect an AI assistant

Book, Please exposes an MCP server so agents can search for books and create podcast-branded links while you write show notes. You sign in with the same email you use on Book, Please.

Before you connect

  • You need a Book, Please account — sign up here if you have not already.
  • Use the same email address when the assistant asks you to sign in.
  • Your podcast account must be activated (the one-time $9 setup fee paid).
  • Add at least one podcast in your dashboard so links can be attached to a show.

Server URL

When your client asks for an MCP server URL, use:

https://bookplease.ai/api/mcp/mcp

Connect

  1. In your AI client, add a custom MCP connector (or remote MCP server) and paste the server URL above.
  2. Start the connection. Your browser will open Book, Please so you can sign in with a magic link and approve access for the app.
  3. After consent, return to your assistant. Run the whoami tool to confirm you are connected — you should see your Book, Please email.
  4. Ask your assistant to list podcasts, search for books, or create links (see examples below).

Claude

Claude Desktop, Claude Cowork, or other Claude apps that support custom MCP connectors.

Cursor

Add Book, Please as a remote MCP server in Cursor Settings → MCP.

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports OAuth 2.1 and remote MCP over HTTP (for example MCP Inspector).

What your assistant can do

  • list_podcastsShows podcasts you can attach links to.
  • search_booksSearch by title, author, ISBN, or ASIN. Pass your podcast id to see links you already have.
  • create_book_linkCreate a branded link for your podcast after you pick a search result.
  • list_book_linksList book links you have already created.

Example prompts

  • List my podcasts on Book, Please.
  • Search for “The Righteous Mind” by Jonathan Haidt for my podcast [name]. Create a link if I do not have one yet.
  • Here are draft show notes for episode 42. Add Book, Please links for every book mentioned.

Troubleshooting

  • Sign-in failed or redirect error: disconnect and reconnect the connector. Make sure you complete the magic link on the same device if possible.
  • whoami says no account found: create a Book, Please account with the same email you used for OAuth, then reconnect.
  • Cannot create links: confirm the podcast owner has paid the setup fee and has not hit the daily link limit.
  • Only whoami appears: disconnect and reconnect after a fresh sign-in so the client picks up the latest tools.
